Since a few days I cannot access with Thunderburd to the news server.
Do I have to change something in the settings?
Or should someone fix the server?

I can post to a group but I cannot get any new postings. I have to use the
web access, which is much less comfortable than a news reader.

I also am having trouble with Thunderbird. No solution yet. If you come across one, please post.

Hello,

I started to have issues a few weeks ago (didn't find the time to do another attempt on this), but back then I
created an entry in the Thunderbird bugtracking system.

They did some investigation then and pointed to some broken index or so on the EMBT newsserver.

Greetings

Did they delete all the messages prior to 13th March 2018?

If you are trying to use Thunderbird to download messages then you have
keep your fingers crossed because it is hit or miss situation.
Sometimes it works and most times it doesn't.

The only way to get new messages is by going to the Forums. I have to
say that the exercise of using a news client is a big flop. It won't
work 100% of the time. Microsoft gave up years ago by scrapping its
"BRIDGE" and Embarcadero will do the same. In Delphi General
<embarcadero.public.delphi.language.delphi.general> I only see 11
messages in Thunderbird and I have tried many times to purge everything
from my machine and try again and again to no avail!!!

On my todo list is to try an alternative Newsreader, like Xananews.
I'm not sure whether this improves the situation, but one can try and one can send direct
mails to EMBT folks about the current situation.

Up to somewhere in January or February NNTP access via TB worked flawlessly for me.

It would be really better if they dropped the new style forums, put their energy in
getting these stable and putting these in place of the new style one.

Greetings

I tried XanaNews this afternoon and that one could download messages.
Bu But looking more carefully at the ones from non-tech I just saw,
that there's a huge gap between 18th August 2015 and 14th March 2018.

Trying Thunderbird once again shows the exact same gap.

=> something's not correct on the EMBT forum server.
Xana News shows some posts from 14Th March with a number of 0. Does
this mean something in the context of this failure?

1. What is it?
2. Can it be fixed?
3. How to prevent this from happening in the future?

Greetings

In September 2015, the NTTP server database crashed. This forum was down for more than 2 weeks. Since then every 3 or 4
months the database crash again and they restore the backup they have prior to the first crash

No! SHould have been fixed already and put into the place these new
community forums are now.

Up to recently nobody seemed to remove spam from those and the structure
of the groups there is mostly useless imho.

Hope not, nntp is still superior for reading this groups IMHO.

On the other hand, with this kind of stupid technival issues.....

Simple: we want them to solve them. Maybe we can start a petition?
