I've been reading up on these, and Stephen Ball's blogs

https://delphiaball.co.uk/2015/02/06/interbase-change-views-part-1/

and links from them seem to answer most of the obvious questions, bar one:

Is it possible, from the data from a Change View subscription to identify the user who made a particular change?

No that is not stored.

Jeff,

No that is not stored.

Pity. Seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to me ...

As is mentioned in the article you read, subscription is not an auditing tool.

Jeff,

As is mentioned in the article you read, subscription is not an auditing tool.

Sure, but ime v. frequently users like to ask "Who did that?", though often expressed rather more colourfully, without expecting he forensic detail that auditing can provide.

But that question is an auditing question. subscriptions are strictly to tell
you something changed, not from what and by whom.

What you are asking for is a lot more intensive on the server, you have to track
changes and the person changing it per column per person registered for that
subscription. The point of them is to be very lightweight which is why they are
not designed to replace auditing tools (usually log tables).
