Hallo,

after 2 years (Delphi XE8) I want to update my development environment in the near future.
It is important to me that all tools run stably.

My thoughts:
- Delphi 10.2.2: I do not need any features of the announced new version.
- IntraWeb: IW16/17 will take a while. Also, I would not use the new version for projects right away.
- TMS: Components for IW14.2.6 are available
- cgDEVTools: Components for IW14.2.6 are available

Is this a good time to update or should I wait?

Best regards

I stayed on10.1 and let the subscription expire. I have TMS, CG Dev, NexusDB and a few other 3rd party controls to keep current. It gets expensive. I may have to reconsider the Delphi license because the upgrade option ends in March. I've lived on that option for many years.

*Upgrade SKU to be discontinued by March 31st *
This Quarter (ending on March 31st) will be the last to offer Upgrades. In keeping with our advance notices practice, we want to give plenty of time to customers who for any reason want to use the Upgrades SKU to do so.

This is the most cost-effective path for developers with older versions to move to the latest version and get the first year of Update.

There is nothing in 10.2 that I'm dying to have, but the upgrade options saves hundreds of dollars.

i moved from Delphi XE8 to Berlin because of some annoying bugs.
now in Berlin there are different stupid and annoying bugs...

my customer is also using XE8, and everything works fine in iw when i send the code for him to see.

i decided not to give even 1$ to emb until they will FINALLY have BiDi support in Firemonkey ! (maybe in 2038...)

so...
i can't to do anything with FM and since iw is all i need - i don't plan to upgrade.

plus, emb doesn't seem to care about iw and it's users (actually they don't care about any emb user, but that's for another discussion...)

my advice :
if you don't REALLY NEED to upgrade - don't .

Additional reasons:

- I have enough of x delphi XE8 crashes every day.
- I want to benefit from IntraWeb, TMS and cgDEVTools bug fixes I have reported.
- I wonder if there will be a new IW 14.3.x version?
- Can it be that IW 16.x is the immediately following version?

it remains exciting

14 is mostly in maintenance mode to keep up with browser changes, SSL
libs, security advisories etc.

16 should be available in coming months but major feature is Linux support.

17 is where the big bang comes, and it is coming along very well and
will ship this year.
