This sort of follows from threadID=68492 ....

I've just installed Delphi XE2

When I try to compile anything at all I get is "[Fatal Error] Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

I've tried compiling some of the Delphi samples - no :(

I've tried creating a new console application - but that wont compile

I've tried simple pascal - that compiles with Delphi v2 - butr not with XE2

I've tried re-intsalling Delphi XE2

I've tried repairing Delphi XE2

But all I get is that "[Fatal Error] Object reference not set to an instance of an object" message

Any ideas anyone ?

Thankx

Jim

Hi,

This is a difficult one I think. There are more people having this problem.
https://forums.embarcadero.com/thread.jspa?threadID=62448
http://www.delphigroups.info/2/7c/564797.html

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I only saw this error message related with .NET (like Delphi Prism, Visual Studio) coding.
But you can't basically do anything in Delphi, not even starting a simple form and that indicates
that it might be an installation issue..

or a 3th party component installation..

greets.

That's right - I can't compile ANYTHING

I suspect you are correct that is an installation issue, and I'm not the only one with it

But how to fix?

How to even start to work out where it comes from?

Try filing a free (I think) installation support case?

I logged a support case

They had me uninstall Delphi

Then to right-click the install/setup executable and choose, 'Run as Administrator'

Dont know why this works - my usual account gas admin priviledge - but it does :)

Now back to updating our ancient code...

Hi,

Dont know why this works - but it does :)
Nice.

Now back to updating our ancient code...
That's one giant step for a man, one small leap for mankind..
Try to concentrate on the 3th party components first..

Greets.

I have the same problem , it gives error Object reference not set to an instance of an object,
I re installed it (partial uninstallation), yet the problem retains.

I'm getting the same thing in XE5, with a program with about 4 units. It compiles / builds without problem, but if I CNTRL + Left mouse click on a procedure to go to that procedure (in another unit) it shows the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." message. It seems isolated to that procedure (which has worked fine for a year or so), not others. In runtime, that procedure works fine without problem.

That said procedure uses a 3rd party component for emailing, but, it does work fine....

Hope that helps debug the issue..

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" is a C# (.NET)
error message - I am 98% sure that the message is caused by a .NET based
extension or component of the Delphi IDE. So I would check if there are
any third-party tools are installed, and remove them. If this is not the
case / does not help, I would try to repair the installation.

Hope this helps,

I started getting this error yesterday after updating to Tokyo 10_2_1.
Any ideas other that uninstalling and reinstalling. I have done that several times.
Also uninstalled and reinstalled DotNet3.5 a few times.
Same with 3rd part components.

Berlin works fine.
