XE2 hangs on startup after updating IW (maybe coincidence)

I've been out a few days but when I got back in the office I decided to download and install IW14.1.10 (with source).

I uninstalled IW, then ran the removal tool, ran the .10 update exe. Then I moved the source files over into the active directory.

Starting XE2 I hit the follow scenario during the splash screen:
1. It complains about AQtime startup with a dialog offering to send details to SmartBear. That dialog allows continue Delphi startup or quit or restart. I've tried all three.
2. If I select to continue, XE2 continues to load packages but then stops (hangs) "Loading package dclib160.bpl.
3 The hang is infinite.
4. I have rebooted, restarted, and retried.

I can start XE2 with the -r option (-rfoo) and it will start up, indicating that one of the non-default startup packages is a problem. BUT, I don't know which and I'm not sure how to change the packages from the command line.

So, the question:
1. Before I uninstall and reinstall Delphi, what do you guys suggest as an option to get this going again?
2. How can components be uninstalled individually without running Delphi?

Did the IW install have anything to do with it? I don't see how, and if it did I'd have expected to see more complaints here. OTOH, I don't know of anything else that changed on this machine since I last ran Delphi except installing the update. It still is possible that a virus scan (MS Essentials) may have whacked a file.

Thoughts?

Neither of these are IW or AZ pkgs, nor are the 3P libs that we connect
to. dclib160 may be a core Delphi lib though.

Possible.

Yes, I'm sure dcib160 is a core lib.

How do I remove packages manually? I've renamed a couple of bpl's. I haven't studied how Delphi installs packages (registry entries and files) so I may have to dig into that.

Did the IW install have anything to do with it? I don't see how, and

I don't see it either, but need to check the possibility. Changes (last changes) are usually the culprit. But, not always.

Possible.

I forgot to mention that I had already run the Delphi install in "repair" mode. When that didn't help I ran it again in "change" mode and unchecked AQtime and some other options I don't use. No change (I even still got the AQtime error dialog). I'm guessing that's because a "change" will add files but not do partial uninstall.

I'm trying to avoid rebuilding the Delphi install and settings, but I'm beginning to see the way out is through that dark tunnel. Before I do that I'll export the registry so I have a record of settings.

I hate it when unproductive stuff like this happens.

Thanks,
Dan

Off the top of my head, its in project options. Select it, click
uninstall. Varies a bit across IDEs and I'm largely stuck in 2009 for
compatibility testing reasons.

Yeah, been there done that. You may just need an uninstall and
reinstall. I used to do most of my work in VMs that way I could reset
back in time very quickly using snapshot etc for these reasons.

Thoughts?

Open RegEdit, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Embarcadero\BDS\8.0\Known Packages

Find "IntraWeb 14.0 Design Package for Embarcadero RAD Studio XE2"

Rename it to "__IntraWeb 14.0 Design Package for Embarcadero RAD Studio XE2" (add two underline chars to it)

Then it won't load the package, and you will discover if it has anything to do with it. You can do the same with AQTime package so you also get rid of it.

Ouch.

I was successful in removing AQtime and then started encountering the error described here (though the address is 00084077):

https://forums.embarcadero.com/thread.jspa?threadID=249403&tstart=0

I've been playing around with the Delphi license register program so I've got some other stuff screwed up and will be reinstalling anyway, but thought I'd let you know.

Odd. IW should not affect TRichEdit at all. I think something else is in
play.

I cannot explain why, but the following process seems to have fixed my broken XE2.

1. Uninstall IW (14.1.10) including run BundledRemovalTool
2. From Programs and Features, run Embarcadero RAD Studio XE2 selecting "repair".
3. Click "ignore" when the repair does not find IW files.
4. Uninstall IW (again) including run BundleRemovalTool
5. Clean.bat my project directory
6. Install IW version 14.1.8 based on comments in another thread (note: I also run with the sources\ directory for IW)

Now it workie. <shrug>. I rebuilt a (large) IW project successfully and it seems to work fine.

If I get to feeling frisky I'll reinstall 14.1.10 again and see if I can break it.

I previously have felt like the errors I was seeing was on account of some files that were removed by virus scan (see a previous message). However, running "Repair" for RAD Studio did not fix the problem at that time (iw 14.1.10).

Please download and install latest IW 14.1.12. It fixes a problem when loading IntraWeb 14.1.x in D2009 through XE5.
