Hello to all,

We're using the (Sybase / SAP) Advantage Database components to store some data locally (non multi user).

But since SAP has taken over Sybase, things have nog changed for the better:
- no more community downloads
- no more community forums
- no more community support

Because of this, we are looking for a ligth weight replacement for this database driver.

Our main feature requirements are:
- SQL syntax support
* preferably strongly compatible with MS SQL regarding SELECT/UPDATE etc.
* DML statements may be less compatible, but would be nice (ALTER TABLE etc)
- Relational / integrity checks / cascading updates/deletes
- no installation required (should work file based)
- royalty free distribution
* no problem if a developer licence is reguired
- MUST work on 32-bit Windows (WinApi)
* 64-bit support on Windows for future development
* .NET support not required

We still have an older - very well working - Apollo Databse driver, but it's missing SQL support

To expand on Robert's message, I would suggest you specifically look at the InterBase ToGo or IBLite installations of InterBase.

The IBLite/ToGo products look promissing, but how does the licencing work - do we get a licence to deploy the engine to as many users as we like? Or does every 'user' need it's own licence?

What is the definition of a 'user', because we use the current DB-storage to deploy some 'common' data to the end-users which he cannot modify.
When every running applications needs te be licenced seperatel, then we would be talking about a 1000 licences (multiple application installations per organisation - laptops/desktops).
