MesNews also does not work. Settings for Thunderbird and MesNews have not been changed.
So the problem must be on the embarcadero site. (I think the server name still is 'forums.embarcadero.com')
MesNews displays 'Connection error. Error number 10053.

Just a random question, seems a few people having issues with access
lately.

Are any of you guys still running Windows XP to connect?

If not - just ignore this question.

Thanks, XP has issues with SHA2 HTTPS I was wondering if that affected
the NNTP connection.

Seems it doesn't.

Do you perhaps have a wrong hosts entry? That was needed for a while,
but not anymore.

Hello,

my TB settings didn't change either but access obviously is still
possible. I'm on V45.0. Maybe something between you and EMBT has changed?

I got this today on both Thunderbird (granted a very old version) and XanaNews.
It cleared up immediately just by turning Avast off then back on again.

A viable option - works fine. Thanks.
Seems that nowadays there are problems left and right with SSL.

Weird. I am using (the free) Avast too, but I didn't have these
problems using XanaNews, on different computers (one is a Parallels VM
on a Mac, one is a plain Windows 10 on a laptop).

They recently (in the past week to 10 day) put out a new update. That update is
the one that did it to me. Perhaps you haven't been queued yet to get it? I
know my desktop and my laptop came available on different days.

It updated itself last night, and I had the same problems. I turned off
the NNTP "protection" and now I can use NNTP again.

It was also causing problems for me on secure mail servers with html messages
that had https links. I left NNTP on and just turned off the SSL monitoring and
that worked for me for both mail and news.

Hello,

afaik without SSL it might not work at all.
Did you read my post about some changes to the Thunderbird advanced
configuration about some SSL /cipher related stuff? It's in this thread.

I think he meant the Avast SSL monitoring. That was what I had to turn off.

Do you mean this post in a different thread (https://forums.embarcadero.com/thread.jspa?threadID=210647&tstart=0)
where you wrote:
"Me too, but for me it works. I'm using V45.0.
There was something about some crypto algorithms once if I remember
correctly.

Under extras/settings/extended there's a button "edit configuration".
Confirm the warning and set these 2 entries to false:
security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128 and security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256"

I was unable to locate the menus and button that you describe. Cannot see "Extras" anywhere. Any additional help to navigate in Thunderbird to get there would be appreciated. (Using v45.1.0)

The regular main menu mmight be hidden by default nowadays but I always

That is simply the English version. There is no special North-American
English version, although all texts use the American spelling.
