Instability in XE8 on Windows 10

Recently installed retail version of Windows 10 on same laptop (as used with XE7 and Win8.1) but with new SSD for Win10. Followed OS setup with installation of Delphi XE8 and all of the same 3rd-party libs that I've used for years. No apparent problems with installations.

First strange behavior is considerable display flicker with every keystroke in IDE editor. Most recent problem involves the IDE hanging for no apparent reason other than appearing to be connected to Delphi help system being in the background; guaranteed hang when using index search in help system after several different searches.

Anyone else experiencing the same or any other sort of instability with Windows 10? Is it advisable to stay on Win 8.1 with XE8? XE7 worked great with 8.1, but not sure if it's worth the time and effort of reinstalling XE8, etc., on 8.1 if there are general stability problems with XE8.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi
there is problems with XE8 for when using large projects
but that is being addressed in the nex version

Its strange though that W10 would make problems worse compared to W8.1
I have not noticed any (extra) problems with using XE6 on W10 myself

Thanks for responding, Brian. I'm going to install XE8 on my 8.1 drive today, and see if I experience any of the same or similar problems. I will have to say, though, that over the last six months or more I've been very impressed with the overall stability of Win 8.1 and the common applications and hardware that I use with it. Were it not for the development needs, looking down the road, I'd be sticking with 8.1 for a much longer time. Win 10 has not played nice with me so far.

Was about to post my own message when saw yours. See below. I seem to be having the same problem but nothing related to Help or IDE flickering. I haven't tried the Help but will later to see if it causes the same issue.

I have a problem where my computer (probably more accurately - the
Desktop) hangs when I try to run my application within the IDE.
This occurs for me on both XE7 and XE8 (installed side by side on the
same box). The only course of action I have is to Reset or turn
off the computer. Desktop becomes totally unresponsive. Occurs
almost immediately after clicking Run (with debugging). Unfortunately
it doesn't do it everytime (or fortunately depending on how you
look at it), but after a restart it might do it the first time or maybe
the 10th time.

I have left it overnight to see if it comes back but nothing. Running
without debugging doesn't cause the problem.

The only difference recently is the upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8
but I would doubt that is causing the problem because no-one else seems
to be complaining about it. But is it maybe something Win 10 related?

I have a VM running Win8 that doesn't cause the problem. I completely
reformatted my C drive and installed everything from scratch again, but
alas the problem has reoccurred. No other software is exhibiting the
problem (ie hanging). I haven't had an opportunity to play with Delphi
10 Seattle yet to see if that has the same problem.

I checked my memory thinking it was a hardware problem with memtest86
but it was fine. And as I say, running a VM with lots of RAM doesn't
cause the problem so don't think it is hardware.

Anyone else encountered something similar? I've never ever seen this
before in the all years, but maybe there is some other problem. I don't
have Visual Studio installed so I don't think there is another debugger
causing a problem. Not sure where to look next from here.

I have the IDE hanging problem when I run with debugging using Seattle 10 on Win10. It runs once or twice and then hangs. Only option is power off the VM. If I have Task Manager running first and minimize the hung IDE then try to kill the BDS Task Manager Hangs.
Observations are...
- OK if I run without debugging.
- OK if I set Tools > Options > Minimize on run. Interesting
Enyone have a solution of fix.

My problem was Avast. After turning off everything in Avast I never had a problem again.
