And if there is not enough active development in Datasnap to support a discussion, what are the alternatives to allow my Delphi mobile apps to communicate with a database server?

You can try mORMot (http://synopse.info), but IMHO it's learning curve is a
little high.

I looked at them all and just decided to build an HTTP server in go.
Use Go, c# (NancyFx), java (Spark), Node (Express), whatever, but I
wouldn't use Delphi. You'd be surprised how easy it is to build API
servers in any of these and they all run multi platform (C# sort of).

Best to start divesting yourself from windows server. it's a Linux
world in the cloud.

there are no alternatives that offer support, even if support means help files, sample code, and community support. Delphi is pretty good as it is. I am looking to explore more of the changes in the newer versions.

You could have a look at kbmMW (www.components4developers.com). It has a learning curve but is used in large projects and active developed and supported.
