Is there a way to configure a user or group in ER Studio so that they can view a data model or diagram but not modify it?

Hi Lori,

This is actually the default behavior. If you don't assign a user or her group to the No Access role for a diagram or its project, and you don't assign roles that contain permission to modify the diagram, then the default is to allow view only access.

If a user is unable to view a diagram, it is likely that the user or a group she belongs to has the No Access role applied at the diagram or parent project level. If the user can view, check out, and modify a diagram that should be read-only, it is likely that a role with Update Diagram permission is applied to that user or a group she belongs to.

Cheers,
Jason

Jason,

Thank you for that explanation. I want to set up a role for ETL developers. They will need to be able to create data flow
objects but we do not want them changing the actual data models. If I grant access to "Create/Update/Delete Data Flow Object" and "Update Display Properties", will that accomplish what I want?

Thanks,
Lori
