I'm rather incensed that Embarcadero, or FastReports, has decided not to
include FastReports in XE7. Save for the FMX version. This means the
apps I designed in XE6 will have to stay there and can't be recompiled
at XE7. While I may still buy the Standard VCL edition I feel forced
into the decision. I wish I'd known this was being dropped before doing
that upgrade.

UPDATE Situation is resolved and was the result of an installation error. See the preceding posts for more information if you experience this problem.

I see it as an option during the install it might not be separate download like the FMX version
but the VCL does appear to be there. I left the option checked and it appears to be installed in

C:\Program Files (x86)\FastReports

On my machine.

FastReport 5 is on my component palette for VCL - XE7 Enterprise.

I don't use it, so I don't know if anything is missing.

Not on mine. I guess it is discontinued in Pro. I'll try and modify to
see if perhaps I missed it.

It's in the feature matrix for Delphi Professional.

Let us know how the Modify goes.

I stand corrected. It is indeed in the install listing under 3rd party
and was apparently installed but it does not show at all in the VCL
component listing anywhere. I'll have to try removing it and
reinstalling just that part.

The only component listing I seem to have is for the following components:

FastReports 4.0 DB FMX
FastReports 4.0 FMX

I'll try the modify mentioned earlier, tomorrow and post results here.

Confirmed after forced removal and re-install it is now showing up. The
only thing I can think is that my install of the FMX FastReport
components somehow wiped out the VCL installation. All is once again
good with the world.

Better not. While that's good idea for the web interface when the post
is edited it appears as a new thread in the newsreaders.

I find them indispensable. I monitor about 14 different news servers of
varying topic. This makes it extremely easy to search for, archive, and
respond in just a few seconds to items I'm monitoring. Now if I was
only viewing one site I'd be more inclined to use a web interface. So I
can certainly see why you'd question that they are still used.

Actually a majority of post on here come from newsreaders not the web interface.

Oh, yes, +1000%. Web interfaces are a DREADFUL way of presenting NNTP
to users. There is simply nothing whatever to compare with a good
newsreader when it comes to information density, clarity, etc.

Well regardless if the original statement was incorrect something
snafu'd that shouldn't have. I looked at the installation when this
problem first arose and it showed the components were installed. The
actual IDE however obviously had no entries for them. I don't know if
the failure was the result of the original install, upgrade to C/S
Firedac, or the FMX FastReport addition, but something caused the
original VCL to be removed. So I'd leave this here as is for others to
know its easily fixable with a re-install. I'm still going to check for
my own sanity though that other components that are suppose to be there
are indeed there.

Ok, agreed. Given though that no component was in the VCL, no entries
were in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Fast Reports directory and the only
references to any component was FMX I was discouraged. In hindsight I
should have titled it differently but Discouraged is hardly a scathing
teardown of Embarcadero and there is still the matter that something
screwed up that part of the install. I'm still leaning toward the FMX
install of FastReports.
