If you install F-Secure anti-virus, Delphi's licencing system produces an error and refers you to F-Secure for instructions as to how to configure f-Secure so as not to cause this problem.

Does anyone know what the instructions are? I am unable to work whilst I wait for F-Secure to answer my query...

According to the F-Secure knowledgebase there are two possible solutions for this issue.

Disabling Advanced Process Monitoring
1.Open the F-Secure user interface and click Settings.
2.Select Computer and then Deepguard.
3.Remove selection Advanced Process Monitoring.
4.Click OK and then Close.

Excluding the Delphi executable from Real-time Scanning

1.Open the F-Secure user interface and click Settings.
2.Select Computer and then Virus- and Spyware Scanning.
3.Click Open excluded items list.
4.In the new window that opens, click Objects.
5.Add a check to the checkbox Exclude objects (files, folders, ...): if it is not already selected.
6.Add bds.exe to the excluded objects.
7.Click OK, OK and Close to close the user interface.

Hello Peter,

Many thanks for this - I don't know how you found this, because when I searched from 'Delphi' on the F-Secure kb, it didn't return any hits.

Unfortunately I am unable to follow the advice, as these options have been removed from the latest version of F-Secure. You can only permit an app if F-secure has blocked it, and in neither place does it admit to blocking Delphi. The previous version (9) didn't interfere with Delphi on my computer when running Windows XP, so what it happening under Windows 8 I don't know.

Unfortunately I have not received a reply to my support request to them, despite having a service contract covering my company, so in the interests of productivity I may need to take option (3) and install Kaspersky...

Kind regards

Mike

These can be turned off in policy by admin if our computer is in a local
domain like a workplace.
It's part of their security scheme and many deny to open, so you need to
work with private computer if such regime is applied to your computer

Hello Alf,

This machine is (or was) actually running a standalone version of F-Secure. For some reason, not yet identified by Tech support, but probably due to security settings, policy manager was unable to install F-Secure on this machine and the local install option is no longer available since version 10 came out..

I have installed Kaspersky as I can't afford to waste any more time, oddly the browsing performance seems to have improved also, but that may be due to less traffic on the internet connection today.

Kind regards

Mike

BTW: Are you aware that any (so called) security software running on
a developer machine can cause serious, hard to track problems, such
as strange bugs in your programs or the IDE that won't show up on a
clean box?

Hello Arno,

No, I am not aware of this. I suppose it would make sense, but I would need to have a separate development machine if I took the software off.

How badly is Delphi affected?

Security software running in the background might wrongly hook and handle
calls to the Win APIs or just lock files when they should not be locked etc..
You may code against a completely screwed up system.
So basically security software should not be installed on a developer box.
If that is not possible I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials, it's
IMO one with the less negative effects.

Perhaps I should have mentioned, I work for Embarcadero EMEA Support - this was details provided to us by F-Secure.

If this is not an option then you will need to contact F-Secure.

Helo Peter from Embarcadero.

Do you have any details of what gets blocked from f-secure, or moreover - What my new Delphy XE6 is doing, to get an penelty from f-secure?
When I disable the security from f-secure, the XE6 starts fine.

Thanks,
Theodor.
