Somehow I've misplaced my installation media for Delphi 6. I have 5 and 7, but no 6! I file my serial numbers with the actual media, so I'm also missing those. Now I have a very quick project to undertake that needs Delphi 6. Does anyone have a copy of the installation media (and serial number and authorization key) that they're willing to sell and transfer to me? I don't need the manuals... ironically I have the entire set for 6. And I have every RTL patch (since they were issued as downloads).
I checked eBay. I found a few old copies, but not 6. I realize that it wasn't Embarcadero when Delphi 6 was released, but I had hoped that they'd be able to help me out. But, sadly, that's not the case. Anyone out there that can help (or have a suggestion)?

Can this not be done in Tokyo 10.2.3? You can download a Starter
Edition free of charge or if you are doing some database work then
download a trial version and use it for 30 days.
Delphi 6 is quite old and I doubt if anybody here is using it. Have you
checked in your Account on Embarcadero if they have a link?

I'm sure it could be done in Tokyo. However, the application uses a number of third-party components that I don't currently own for Tokyo. And the entire run-time environment would have to be replaced. I'm trying to find a quick-and-dirty method of making a small fix to an existing application. And I have checked with Embarcadero They don't supply the media for version 6, unfortunately.

Pfft, is this a joke? To move from D6 to 10.2 requires porting to
Unicode and porting off 3P comps which no longer exist.
There are still a fair bit of D7 users out there even.

I assume you have 3rd party components without source otherwise I'd suggest using D7.
Strangely enough the only copies of Delphi I've kept are D6 and D2006. D6 was kept for one application which I'm rewriting as a retirement project. I'm not going to be making any changes to the current one so if if its legal I can sell you it.

I"m going to assume that there's probably at least one component for which I did not have the source code. I have the installation media for 5, 7, 8, 2005, 2010, and every version of XE. But not 6! Heck, I even have the Ashton-Tate dBASE II manaul and floppies! There must have been a reason I didn't bother upgrading the app in question, at the time. And now I'm just trying to find the most painless way to fix one or two small issues. Heck, I even tried to use a hex editor to see if I could just directly change the exe file! Because I apparently had been using Delphi 6 a lot, I'm assuming I installed it on one of my machines and then didn't put the media back where all of the other discs are filed.
I'll be emailing you directly to talk about transfer of ownership.

I was as "bad"/"good" at keeping stuff, moving house helped me. Not necessarily a solution to be recommended.

What I do these days is to backup all my downloads on a NAS drive in my
own house; I don't rely on Embarcadero or Microsoft or Adobe or Acronis
or whoever to supply me a download link in the future.
The drives are getting cheaper and WD Red Pro drives can last you for
160 years!! (This figure is based on their fault rate - they say
1,400,000 hours before 1st fault arises)
Just Buy a 6 or a 8 TB drive and put it in a USB enclosure and all your
backups and serial numbers are safe.
For serial numbers, create a Text file and safe it with the download ISO
or ZIP file.

That's exactly what I do... for my current software. Unfortunately I didn't have that NAS in 2000, nor was I as good about keeping serial numbers separately from the installation media. What I typically did was attache a label to the disc, containing the serial number, etc.

Hello,
aren't your S/N and authorisation key listed under registered products
in your EDN account?
If so aquiring the installation files alone might be sufficient.

That's what I had hoped. The reply I got from Embarcadero was so negative I dismissed that approach.

With Borland to Inprise to CodeGear to EMBT... I doubt they even have a
functioning system to issue D6 keys any more.

It was in place 2 years ago when I was there. I doubt it has changed.
There was a significant change between Delphi 6 and Delphi 7 in terms of
licensing, but there should be no problem with Delphi 6 licenses.

All my projects were d6 that moved to d7. As for the component
You have only DCU which one is it
Can you give me the company and the component name?
What dose it do?
Cant you find some thing similar ?
I have been with Delphi since #1
never found a problem to move to a free component.
And P.S NEVER USED just dcu for a project.
Bad practice.

I was hoping that this would be a very quick fix, without having to replace components, the dlls and BPLs, etc. And I realize that it's bad practice to use a component without its source. But this exe was created 16-17 years ago!

If you are registered for Delphi 6 you should be able to download it
from the registered users downloads area of members.embarcadero.com

No, unfortunately. It looks like the oldest version for which a registration number is available, or a download is present, is Delphi 2005.

The oldest version in registered users is Delphi 7. If you don't see
anything older than Delphi 2005, that means you didn't registered
anything between Delphi 2005 and Delphi 7.
My recollection is Delphi 6 is available to download, it's just hidden.
If you create an installation case at support.embarcadero.com they
should be able direct you to the download. Note that downloads at that
time were specific to language and edition. So to make things faster you
need to tell them you need the Delphi 6 Professional English (or
whatever) download.

I think the only version between 7 and 2005 was 8. But that wouldn't have helped me, anyway, since 6 preceded 7.

Maybe I should try again. I submitted a request to 'Support' asking about replacement media and got this reply:
"We have received your inquiry about I have lost my installation media. Please note Delphi 6 included some third party licensed code that we are no longer able to ship. The installers for Delphi 6 are no longer available in any media form."
Maybe I should have asked about a download of the install file instead of replacement media. But the reply was so negative that I abandoned trying to get anywhere with Embarcadero.

I would ask if per chance they are getting Delphi 6 and 2006 confused.
My recollection is Delphi 2006 could not be provided due to 3rd party
code, but this was not the case for Delphi 6. Perhaps they lost the
license in the past 2 years, but this seems unlikely to me.
If you get an answer from Christopher Moeller or David Powell I would
trust it. Others, not so much, as they do not have the history.

Thanks for your insight. I found my install disk, so the issue has fortunately been resolved!
