Someone is filling all categories of this forum with SPAM (fake visas and stuff). I think it is time for someone to ban that user, remove that threads and block the spammer IP, right?

We do this all the time (I have deleted several tens of thousands of
spam messages in these forums, only the last month, and banned almost
100 posters for spamming). I don't see any spam here, so someone must
have done it before I could.

A lot of the spam is easy for you guys to spot. Others, with better formatting and wording maybe don't jump out so much.

I've seen this one in a couple of places:
https://forums.embarcadero.com/thread.jspa?threadID=245515&tstart=0

Maybe a keyword search would find the rest?

Of course, I figure I can just sign up for illegal ID's from various countries and spend some jail time all over the world <g>.

Easy to spot, yes, but if a group (like off-topic, which was removed
now) gets some 8,000 to 10,000 spam messages per day, it still takes
some time. Fortunately, XanaNews has a mass cancellation mode for
moderators.

I can't see this particular message anymore (Remy removed it), but I sometimes see not-so-obvious spam messages too, often as reply to a real question, and remove them when I do. But I
can't, and no one else can read each and every message. That's the problem.

Many newsgroups requires that first couple of messages from new users are
approved by moderator, that usually eliminates spam in technical forums.
Don't you have something like that here?

Sure, but it was decided that that would make the groups far less
usable and not open enough for new users.

I don't see why, nothing would change to them, they would normally ask a
question as now. Only change would be that question wouldn't appear immediatelly
but after few hours or day at most. I would argue that amount of work of
approving 1 new user a day is much less than deleting 5k of spam messages.

And of couse having less spam would make groups more usable to all users, new
and old ones.

I don't see why,

I do. And well, it is not my call anyway, so I won't discuss it.

There is hardly any spam. We have been keeping these groups clean for
many, many years already. Only lately, and only in a few sporadically
frequented groups, there has been spam. We removed it. It is very, very
seldom that others actually experience that spam.

Ahhh, kind of thought that's what happend to it. Unfortunate, but
understandable.
