Hi,

It means, Idera probably plans to sell it. They bought the original
Embarcadero business and don’t know what to do with Delphi. Having a
separate company does not require a spin-off. To make it look more
interesting, you also lay off some workers, to have its profitability look
better on paper. What I don’t quite understand: Idera took a credit of
nearly 500MUSD. Everything is on credit. How do they plan to make money on
this?

Regards!

Good question. What were Embarcadero focused on before, besides the
developer tools market? Was there some other segment of business I'm
not aware of?

Having reduced competition, they reap benefit of whatever is sold on
database tools side? (Where there may be more money - at least that
would seem to be what M$ thinks, moving SQLServer to linux, thus giving
up server license purchases...)

It's been announced for a while that the database tools (like
ER/Studio) would move to Idera, and developer tools would remain under
the Embarcadero name. That's not necessarily anything to do with
selling it - they bought Embarcadero knowing full well that Delphi is
valuable. Back when CodeGear was sold to Embarcadero, people were
worried how Emb would focus on Delphi if it did database tools too. Now
that it's focused on developer tools only, people are worried... agh.
Can't win.

IMO, focusing on dev tools is a Good Thing. It's good for a company to
have a specific focus, and I'm glad that Embarcadero = Delphi &
C++Builder - that's fantastic.

Indeed. And InterBase. In other words, the original CodeGear products.

What is now Embarcadero is more or less what used to be CodeGear once, so I assume that InterBase still belongs to Embarcadero.

I think they mean users that are using applications created by Embarcadero tools. (database tools and programs created in Delphi, C++)
Under it says : "products used by many thousands of developers across the world."

I don't know how many people use Skype but it is surely more than 3 million and as far as I know Skype for Windows is still created in Delphi.

Indeed.

That is not new. But the forums are, obviously, still here. I doubt
they will go away anytime soon. I bet they saw the big difference in
usage numbers of these forums compared to the the community forums.

If they are clever, they give the web part of these groups (they look a
little nineteen nineties, IMO) the looks of the community site, and
take proper care of the NNTP part, and most people will be happy.

I don't think they killed it. Maybe simply renamed it. If I do a

I don't think they killed it. Maybe simply renamed it. If I do a

are redirected to ER/Studio Enterprise Team Edition

The ER/Studio Enterprise Team Edition already did exist.

After reading a cached page for ER/Studio Business Architect, it looks
like that the features that it offered are also available in the
Enterprise Team Edition. Although, I don't know if those features are
on par with regards to both products, but it's possible that Idera
didn't see the benefit of keeping two products that offer common features.

That is just my guess on the scenario, as I don't use either products,
and that the old Embarcadero product URL are redirected to that one product.
