I need some advice on picking an installer technology.

My current situation, is I am using:

* Wise for Windows, with lots of custom extensions
* Delphi 2006

I am about to upgrade to Delphi XE7, and I want to re-work my installers into a new system, since Wise is no longer supported, and is severely choking on the data.

Below is what we are presently installing.

* Building 32 different installers (16 languages, and "pro" and "standard" versions)
* About 12,000 files installed in each installer
* Third party merge modules
* USB Device drivers
* File type registrations, shortcuts, etc.
* Quite a few custom extensions in the form of .exe files called by the installer

Below are some requirements for the installer maker

1 - Must be able to do full international by either making a single installer where the first dialog asks for the language, or where it makes multiple installers, one of each language. Ideally, it would give the option for both.

2 - Strong Should - Include all of our languages pre-translated, provided by the installer, so we don't have to pay our translators to do that.

3 - Must be very flexible in terms of allowing for custom extensions.

4 - Should have good built in capabilities in regards to asking user for things such as file type registration

5 - Should be as dirt simple as possible to use, so that we can spend our time making product instead of installers.

6 - Must not require a particular development environment to be installed - it should be development environment agnostic, though A Delphi-only solution would be okay.

7 - Must support 3rd party merge modules

8 - Only needs to install for Windows

9 - Being the right tool is much more important than it being free. This is almost a money-no-object decision if it can save us time.

Hi,

I use Advanced Installer ( http://www.advancedinstaller.com/ )

I think I have the professional version.

I don't know if it meets all of your requirements.

Deploymaster.

http://www.deploymaster.com/

JGSoftware. Sets up for both 64 and 32 bit, signing, registry, file types, 3rd party. If .Net is needed, tests automatically and downloads from the MS official site to the target machine. Multiple languages. Nice GUI front end. Under $100 I think, been a while since my last upgrade. The system is updated when Windows updates or even before. Easy to use. Great support.

Hi,

I use InnoSetup. Flexible, simple and impressive. And it's free by the way.

HTH,

So I went with Inno Setup. Man do I like it!! It is so nice to use after about an hour or so of learning. I'm now a couple of months into it, and have found it to be very flexible, relatively easy to use, super "clean", and just a tremendous joy coming from Wise.

Thank you for your recommendation. It was a good one.
