Hi Bruce, thanks for the reply. I'm in the web client (yuk) but my NNTP client (tbird) hasn't seen an update since early September.
Wonder if I need to delete the entire emb acct and start over? Or is there some lesser evil that can be performed to set things right?

The crash back then required a reset to a DB about 3 weeks old. This means you
need to reset all the groups so the message id's reflect that. You have read
message id's over that 3 week period and unless you reset your newsgroups you
won't see new messages until the id's are > than what you saw before the crash.
